Description

Kentucky State Police is the premier, full service law enforcement agency in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The successful candidate for this position will possess a high level of training and experience in the operation of high performance, turbine powered multi-engine airplanes and single engine helicopters. They will be responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of officials of the highest levels of Kentucky State Government including the Governor. Responsibilities will also include the transportation of specialized units of the Kentucky State Police including, but not limited to, the Special Response Team, the Critical Incident Response Team and the Accident Reconstruction Team. The holder of this position will also be responsible for the transportation of high risk prisoners with the assistance of sworn personnel. These duties, along with others as assigned, will be performed at the convenience of the Department of State Police at such times and dates as deemed necessary by their supervisors.

Key Responsibilities:

Responsible for ensuring all airplanes and helicopters are in an airworthy condition.
Maintains aircraft flight records and other records pertinent to fight operations.
Operates airplanes in the transporting of state personnel and in aerial services for State agencies.
Conducts continuing education and training on flight safety and flight operations.
Performs administrative duties related to the operation of the Aircraft Branch.

Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Superior interpersonal and communication skills
Preferred to have a Commercial Helicopter Rating
Experience in Turbojet and Turboprop aircraft preferred

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must have a valid commercial pilot's license with a helicopter rating and an instrument rating, with a minimum of 1,500 hours of flying time, which must have been in helicopters. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this classification. Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.

About Justice & Public Safety Cabinet | Kentucky State Police

Kentucky state government is made up of three branches: the Legislative Branch, the Judicial Branch, and the Executive Branch.

The Legislative Branch is made up of the elected members of the Kentucky General Assembly and staff. Legislators are chosen by voters in their districts to serve in either the House of Representatives or the Senate. With the aid of their professional staff employed in the Legislative Research Commission (LRC), they write and enact the laws of Kentucky. LRC employees are not covered by the merit system in KRS Chapter 18A.

The Judicial Branch includes the state's court system. It interprets and applies the laws under the Kentucky and United States Constitutions. As with the Legislative Branch, Judicial Branch employees are not covered by the merit system in KRS Chapter 18A.

The Executive Branch, headed by the governor, carries out the laws through "agencies" – cabinets, departments, boards, commissions, and offices. Most Executive Branch employees are covered by one of the three personnel systems: KRS 18A, KRS 16 and the Career and Technical System. Employees in state government are assigned to an agency within the Executive Branch. An employee appointed to a position in the classified service whose appointment and continued employment are subject to the classified service provisions of KRS 18A is considered to be under the 'merit system'. Within the Executive Branch, agencies are grouped into "Cabinets." There are currently eleven program cabinets: Transportation, Economic Development, Finance & Administration, Tourism, Arts & Heritage, Education & Labor, Health & Family Services, Justice & Public Safety, Personnel, Energy & Environment, and Public Protection. The General Government Cabinet is comprised of departments headed by elected officials.
