Job Description

Position Summary

 

Position for a Civilian, FAA commercially licensed Rotorcraft Pilot who would have all the duties to serve as Pilot in Command for the Air Support Unit’s Helicopters.  Additionally, it is preferred that applicant have prior experience as a “Law Enforcement” (prior sworn LE pilot) and preferable to be “Dual” rated in “Fixed-wing” aircraft (commercial) with “high performance endorsement” as well.  This would allow the pilot to also serve as “Pilot in Command” of the department’s Fixed-wing aircraft.             

 It would also be preferred that the applicant have completed Airbus/Eurocopter transition training and be experienced with Airbus H125 (AS50B3e AStar) and Eurocopter EC120B Colibri aircraft.  

This is a safety sensitive position subject to random drug/alcohol testing.

Minimum Education, Experience And Additional Requirements

 

High School Diploma or GED.

Possession of a commercial licensed Rotorcraft/Helicopter Pilot by the Federal Aviation Administration.

Must have no less than 1,000 hours as pilot in command of time logged in helicopters with no less then 400 hours pilot in command time logged in turbine helicopters.

Possession of a  Class II Federal Aviation Administration medical certificate. 

Factory trained and experienced with Airbus H120 / H125 helicopters preferred.

Possession of Federal Aviation Administration commercial license with “fixed-wing” aircraft as well with “high performance” endorsement with no less than 250 hrs. as Pilot in Command in fixed-wing aircraft preferred.

Law enforcement air operations experience preferred.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License, or the ability to obtain by date of hire.
Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire.

  • Applicable Federal Aviation Administration  guidelines and all pertinent Federal Aviation Regulations as they relate law enforcement patrol flight operations
  • Helicopter operating procedures
  • Flight control and systems
  • Safety hazard and precautions
  • Local geography, topography, and area weather conditions

  • Comply with  all regulations, policies and procedures and determined by the Federal Aviation Administration, Albuquerque Police Department and Air support unit directives
  • Safely operate a helicopter, including during the hours of darkness and in severe weather conditions

  • Maintain situational awareness and monitor weather conditions throughout the flight
